High-end SUV, BYD Yangwang's U8L, now available for pre-order, boasting a starting price of $180,700.

The Yangwang U8L, a mid-to-large luxury electric SUV, has made its debut, promising an unparalleled blend of spaciousness, high-end materials, and cutting-edge technology. This supreme vehicle, known as the Dingshi Edition during pre-sales, stretches 5,400 mm in length, providing ample room, especially in the second row, to cater to the discerning tastes of high-end customers.

Key Features and Specifications

The U8L boasts impressive dimensions with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, a width of 2,049 mm, and a height of 1,921 mm. Under the hood, it houses a 2.0T range-extender engine combined with four electric motors, each delivering up to 220 kW (295 hp), resulting in a powerful total output. The U8L shares BYD’s e4 platform, ensuring advanced features and capabilities.

Performance-wise, the U8L is comparable to its predecessor, the U8, which accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, reaches a top speed of 200 km/h, and boasts a CLTC range of approximately 1,000 km. Fast charging from 30% to 80% battery is expected to take just 18 minutes.

The U8L's unique off-road capabilities are highlighted by the DiSus-P hydraulic suspension, enabling all-terrain tank turns, tire blowout stabilization, and emergency flotation on water. This exceptional off-road and safety performance sets the U8L apart in the premium electric SUV category.

Inside, the U8L offers a luxurious experience with full leather upholstery, available in black/brown and purple/gray combinations. The cabin features a 12.8-inch OLED curved central control screen, a full LCD instrument panel, a co-pilot entertainment screen, and an AR-HUD head-up display. The interior also includes air conditioning vents above the screens, a gold-plated steering wheel logo, and an embedded refrigerator with a temperature range from -6℃ to 50℃.

The Dingshi Edition offers upgraded materials and enhanced luxury comfort systems, emphasizing artistic refinement and precise engineering.

A Symbol of Ultra-Luxury

Positioned as an ultra-luxury SUV, the Yangwang U8L merges electric performance with advanced technology and artistic craftsmanship. The vehicle was launched for pre-sale on July 31, 2025, with a formal event revealing more detailed specs on autonomous driving features, entertainment, and user options. The U8L's combination of luxury, innovation, and off-road capability sets it apart in the premium electric SUV category.

The U8L is built on BYD's e4 technology and is priced at RMB 1.3 million ($180,700) for pre-sales. The U8, from which the U8L is an extended version of the off-road SUV, has a starting price of RMB 1.098 million.

The U8L's gold logo, made from 24K pure gold, serves as a symbol of its supreme luxury. The U8L is part of Yangwang's ultra-luxury sub-brand, joining the U7 sedan with a starting price of RMB 628,000 and the U9, a two-seat electric supercar with a starting price of RMB 1.68 million.

In June 2024, Yangwang sold a total of 205 vehicles, with a year-on-year decrease of 50.96 percent but a month-on-month increase of 47.48 percent. The U8L's sales figures are yet to be determined.
