Humana Broadens Its Reach into Four Additional Senior Primary Care Market Regions
Humana's health insurer is expanding its primary care operations under the CenterWell and Conviva brands into 11 states, adding four new markets where they already have medical care providers. This move is part of Humana's strategy to grow its business in providing medical care, following their reputation for offering health insurance benefits to seniors.
Similar to its rivals like UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health, Humana operates a diverse portfolio, both paying for and providing care. This approach aims to coordinate healthcare better, improving outcomes and sometimes offering lower-cost insurance products with discounts for care at company-owned providers.
Dr. Sanjay Shetty, president of Humana's CenterWell healthcare services segment, stated, "We're taking a thoughtful approach to growth, seeking out communities that would benefit from our holistic and personalized senior care model." The company plans to integrate CenterWell's care delivery assets, including primary care, home health, and pharmacy services, for improved outcomes and a superior patient experience.
As of the end of last year, Humana's CenterWell and Conviva brands had around 390,000 clients served through 344 senior-focused centers across 15 states. In the future, they anticipate "solid growth" in the primary care business with the addition of new centers and the expansion of their independent physician association model.
On Wednesday, Humana announced it would open new senior primary care centers in Georgia, North Carolina, and Kansas. Furthermore, they expect to add 20 to 30 new centers in existing states this year, including Walmart-co-located senior primary care centers.
In summary, Humana's expansion strategy includes geographic expansion, center addition, integration with existing services, patient growth, operational efficiency, and acquisitions and de novo centers, aiming to improve patient outcomes and grow its business in providing medical care.
Humana, like UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health, utilizes a diverse portfolio that involves both paying for and providing healthcare. With this approach, Humana aims to integrate its services, such as primary care, home health, and pharmacy services, under the CenterWell brand for improved outcomes and a superior patient experience. UnitedHealth Group, through its subsidiary UnitedHealth Advantage, also offers various healthcare plans and services to its clients.
