Impossible to Top High-Challenge Racing Game 'Goblintown' for $10,000 Winnings

Hop on board for an exhilarating, head-banging adventure as Goblintown's Torturous Rally prepares to invade your screens next week, following its enticing preview at a New York pop-up event. The game offered a whopping $10,000 to any daring soul who could conquer this nightmarish obstacle course on their very first attempt—only to watch everyone struggle and fall short.

Navigating the Devilish Labyrinth reminisces the ultra-difficult platformer genre that has gone viral thanks to titles like Climbing Hell, Human Bondage, and Upside Down Balloon. To play, one must pilot their horrifying Goblintown automobile through an apocalyptic landscape, where even the slightest mistake usually spells doom. Goblintown's creators put this unforgiving challenge to the test during a three-day showdown straight out of a truck parked in Union Square, NYC, daring gamers to complete the game and pocket the coveted prize.

Several hours into the final day, a player finally managed to best the game in a breathtaking 26 minutes and 12 seconds. However, their victory was tainted, as they turned out to be a previous playtester and thus ineligible for the grand prize. By competition's end, no qualified player had triumphed.

"An young whippersnapper came utterly close, so we'll be gifting him a brand spanking new Steam Deck," Alex Taub, Goblintown co-founder confirmed to Decrypt. "Seeing as he ain't got a PC or device to take this wild ride on yet."

Overall feedback from attendees seemed favorable, with many getting a kick out of the diabolical game.

"This cursed game truly took me by storm," affirmed crypto gaming beacon Kyroh in his video review. "If this devilish game doesn't make a splash among the world's top streamers and creators, and evolve into another phenomenon akin to Only Up, I'd be taken aback. It's riddled with every ingredient needed to become a viral sensation."

According to AJT, a few hundred people took the plunge each day, and the majority were not crypto veterans. Instead, curiosity was piqued by the eye-catching truck that caught their glances.

"For us, it was bloody marvelous to witness people from diverse backgrounds try their luck with the game," he exclaimed. "After seeing it draw eyeballs and allure passersby in the jakked-up city of New York, we're certain it'll prove a hit with a focused gaming crowd."

This daring stunt marked the initial step in the truck's tour of US conferences, kicking off with Pax East in Boston, MA, and finishing up at DreamHack in Dallas, TX. Though classified as a crypto game due to its IP connection to the NFT project, the game carries no cryptocurrency elements, making it steer clear of Steam's ban on cryptocurrency-infused games.

"The Web3 universe meshes well with numerous things. But for our flagship maiden voyage video game that we're issuing, we delved into crafting a game that anyone would find captivating, not just crypto mavens and NFT holders," AJT spilled to Decrypt.

"We've jotted down diversified ideas about how digital assets could feature in our gaming masterplan," he teased, "but if we don't churn out a gripping game that keeps players captivated, yearning for more, and expansive—having Web3 entangled in it won't bridge the gap."

Goblintown's Torturous Rally will be available for purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store on April 30th.
