India's September 2025 Passenger Vehicle Sales Surge on Festive Demand and GST 2.0
September 2025 witnessed a surge in passenger vehicle sales across India, propelled by festive cheer and GST 2.0 reforms. Key players such as Tata Motors and Hyundai India reported robust numbers, while Mahindra & Mahindra also experienced a significant sales increase.
Tata Motors led the pack with 60,907 units sold, marking a 47 per cent jump from the previous year. The Nexon model achieved its highest-ever monthly sales, with over 22,500 units sold. Tata's electric vehicle (EV) sales also soared by 96 per cent, contributing nearly 17 per cent of total sales for the quarter. Meanwhile, Hyundai India sold 70,347 vehicles, up 10 per cent year-over-year (YoY), with sport utility vehicles (SUVs) accounting for 72.4 per cent of domestic sales. The Venue model had its best month in 20 months, selling 11,484 units. Hyundai's exports also increased by 44 per cent YoY. Mahindra & Mahindra sold 56,233 passenger vehicles, up 10 per cent YoY, with overall sales reaching 58,714 units.
Volkswagen retained its leading position in car exports from Germany, with the highest share of passenger car export sales in September 2025. Tata Motors' compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle sales hit a record 17,800+ units, up 105 per cent YoY.
The strong sales figures indicate a robust consumer demand for vehicles in India, fueled by favorable policies and the festive season. Tata Motors and Hyundai India's impressive performances, along with Mahindra & Mahindra's growth, reflect the overall positive trend in the Indian automotive market.
