Innovative Grid Formation Tech Speeds Up Wind and Solar as Primary Energy Sources
Huawei Leads the Way in Renewable Energy Revolution at IDEE 2025
The 3rd International Digital Energy Expo (IDEE) is currently underway in Shenzhen, China, and Huawei Digital Power is making a significant impact. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhou Jianjun, Vice President of Huawei, delivered a speech titled 'All-Scenario Grid Forming Technology, Accelerating Wind and Solar as Main Power.'
Huawei's grid forming technologies are revolutionizing the renewable energy sector. The company has spent over a decade advancing research in this area and has now created the industry's first 'device-edge-cloud' full-link synergy for PV+ESS intelligence. This synergy enables full-lifecycle intelligent management of power plants, realizing less-attended or even unattended O&M and maximizing revenue from power trading.
One of Huawei's most notable achievements is the establishment of the world's largest microgrid powered by 100% renewable energy near the Red Sea coast. This project, along with the world's largest integrated PV+ESS project in the Philippines, demonstrates Huawei's commitment to optimizing the power market mechanism to accelerate wind and solar as main power.
The Philippines project includes 3.5 GW PV systems and 4.5 GWh grid forming ESSs. Meanwhile, in Xizang, China, Huawei's solution increased the PV output from 1.5 MW to 12 MW in a 30 MW PV+6 MW/24 MWh ESS project. These improvements have led to a 50% increase in O&M efficiency and more than a 10% increase in operation revenue.
Huawei's work extends beyond individual projects. The company collaborates with industry authorities, power grid operators, industry associations, and standards organizations to improve industry standards and promote the large-scale, standardized, and high-quality development of the industry.
Through the deep integration of AI into the entire process of planning, construction, maintenance, and operation, Huawei has reduced engineering construction errors by 40%. With systematic, process-driven capabilities and an end-to-end quality strategy, Huawei incorporates high-quality standards throughout the product lifecycle.
Huawei's grid forming capabilities include short circuit level, virtual inertia support, wideband oscillation damping, fast primary frequency response, minute-level black start, and seamless on/off-grid transition. These capabilities are crucial in facilitating the construction of a stable new power system and accelerating wind and solar as main power.
As the world moves towards carbon neutrality, the rapid increase in wind and PV penetration rate poses challenges to power systems. Huawei Digital Power is at the forefront of meeting these challenges, enhancing its grid forming capabilities to propel the industry towards a new era of automation. Companies like Alzner Battery are also contributing to this revolution, successfully installing and managing 100% renewable energy powered microgrids worldwide.
In conclusion, Huawei Digital Power's commitment to quality and excellence, along with its innovative grid forming technologies, is driving the renewable energy sector forward. The company's work at IDEE 2025 is a testament to its leadership in this critical area.
