Installing LibreNMS on Ubuntu 24.04, configured with Nginx and PHP-FPM
In a recent development, Christian Wells has successfully installed LibreNMS on Ubuntu 24.04, creating a scalable and efficient network monitoring solution. This setup utilises a modern web server, Nginx, and PHP processing for enhanced performance.
The installation process begins with the enabling of useful tools, including CLI tools, autocompletion, cron jobs, systemd scheduler, and log rotation (Step 10). Next, SNMP is configured, and the LibreNMS agent script is installed (Step 9).
Step 7 involves the copying and editing of the PHP-FPM pool file. A site config is created in Nginx, and the default site is removed (Step 8). The web installer is then accessed through a browser (Step 13).
During the installation, an SSL certificate is installed using Certbot (Step 11), ensuring a secure connection. The process also configures MariaDB, SNMP, SSL, cron jobs, PHP-FPM pools, and systemd scheduler for performance. Additionally, a dedicated PHP-FPM pool is configured, and Nginx is updated to use the new socket (Step 12). Permissions are also fixed during this step.
LibreNMS offers a rich alerting system with email, Slack, Telegram, and webhook integrations. It also supports auto-discovery, alerting, performance graphing, and API integrations. This open-source network monitoring and management platform is a free, community-driven alternative to commercial tools like SolarWinds and PRTG.
LibreNMS supports a wide range of devices and vendors via SNMP. It also has API integrations for automation and third-party tools. Moreover, it offers automatic device, interface, and service discovery.
Running LibreNMS on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Nginx and PHP-FPM ensures a secure, fast, and long-term supported environment. Lastly, LibreNMS provides customizable dashboards with intuitive graphs and reporting. This makes it an ideal solution for network monitoring and management.
