Delving into IOTA Rebased: the pioneering Mainnet overhaul providing developers with the tools of smart contracts, tokenization, and scalability.

IOTA Network Implements Rebased Update, New Mainnet for Developers

Fired Up IOTA: A New Era is Born

Brace yourselves, IOTA enthusiasts! The time has come, the moment we've all been waiting for. The IOTA Rebased upgrade kicks off today, inaugurating a powerful new Mainnet. Buckle up as we navigate the journey from a network pause to the Genesis Ceremony, and the mainnet's rebirth. Let's not forget to keep an eye on the #IOTA hashtag! 🔥⤵️ pic.twitter.com/rh3tjQGbj0

May 5, 2025The countdown begins for the IOTA Rebased Mainnet, making its grand entrance today. The post from the official IOTA account on Twitter confirmed the network is ready for builders to deploy, test, and create.

Frictionless Upgrade for Users

IOTA token holders don't need to worry about token migrations. All they have to do is load their existing wallet credentials—mnemonic phrases, private keys, or Firefly/Bloom strongholds—in the newly launched browser-based IOTA Wallet. The Firefly wallet will take a back seat soon, though Ledger hardware wallet support remains. On the flip side, a manual install of the new IOTA Ledger app is required due to Ledger Live compatibility changes. In the near future, the IOTA Wallet Dashboard Web app will offer a richer user experience—providing greater control over token holdings and Assembly to IOTA vesting details.

Network Pause and Genesis Ceremony

The Stardust Mainnet and the IOTA EVM were paused simultaneously at 9:00 am CEST. The Genesis Ceremony begins, organized by the IOTA Foundation and twelve trusted validators such as Nansen, Blockscope, Kiln, and more. The process encompasses a snapshot creation, metadata submission, address mapping, and final consensus. Each validator verifies and signs the genesis data, contributing to the finalized genesis.blob. Once consensus is achieved, the IOTA Foundation deploys new node software and reactivates infrastructure components like APIs, RRC endpoints, wallet apps, and network explorer.

New Explorer Tools and Wallets

Keep an eye on the official IOTA Explorer and IOTAscan, the blockchain explorers, to monitor real-time activity across the IOTA network. These tools offer insights into transaction flows, validator operations, and smart contract interactions. Third-party wallet options are also available, like Night Wallet (mobile and web).

Besides the mainnet reboot, the IOTA EVM will recommence later today. Users can interact with MetaMask as usual. A new IOTA EVM Bridge Web App paves the way for seamless and effortless token transfers between Layer 1 and the EVM Note.

Expanded Validator Ecosystem

The kickoff marks an expanded validator ecosystem, starting with 13 validators initially. Over the following days, the network will grow to approximately 50 validators and scale to 150 in the coming months. Token holders are encouraged to delegate their stake to contribute to the network's decentralization and security. Consult the delegation instructions on the new wallet dashboard.

The Future Awaits

Exchange services are temporarily suspended during the transition but will resume shortly. The decorum following the upgrade shall observe rapid decentralized application releases, integrations, and ecosystem expansion. The IOTA Foundation collaborates extensively with partners and developers to ensure infrastructure availability and ecosystem continuity. With today's successful launch of the IOTA Rebased Mainnet, the future is ripe with limitless possibilities for creativity and collaboration among builders, developers, and consumers.

  2. Token holders can use their existing wallet credentials to access the newly launched IOTA Wallet, with Ledger hardware wallet support still available.
  3. The Genesis Ceremony, organized by the IOTA Foundation and trusted validators, will begin soon, creating the new genesis data for the Mainnet.
  4. Monitor real-time activity on the official IOTA Explorer or IOTAscan, the blockchain explorers, to track transactions, validator operations, and smart contract interactions.
  5. The IOTA EVM will recommence later today, enabling users to interact with MetaMask as usual, and a new IOTA EVM Bridge Web App will facilitate seamless token transfers.
  6. With the initial 13 validators, the expanded validator ecosystem will grow to around 50 validators in the following days and up to 150 in the coming months.
  7. Post-transition, the industry can look forward to rapid decentralized application releases, collaborations, and ecosystem expansion.
  8. The Key Features of the IOTA Rebased Mainnet include Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS), permissionless validators, built-in staking, and high throughput.
  9. Developers will benefit from enhanced scalability, decentralized governance, and improved performance, while token holders will experience increased decentralization, staking opportunities, and potential long-term value appreciation. This, in turn, would contribute to the overall competitiveness, adoption, and growth of the IOTA ecosystem.
