Nippon TV Announces New Production Hub and LA Business Office

Japan's leading multiplatform entertainment company, Nippon TV, has made significant strides in expanding its global reach with the unveiling of Gyokuro Studio and a new LA Business Office.

Based in Tokyo, Gyokuro Studio is a production hub focused on creating original unscripted content for international audiences. Kenichiro Akiyama, with extensive experience in prime-time entertainment production, has been appointed as the Head of Gyokuro Studio. The studio aims to produce ten new titles annually, reaching 100 titles in 10 years.

In a strategic move, Nippon TV will also open a new LA Business Office, overseeing content and IP sales throughout North America and Latin America. Tom Miyauchi, who has been instrumental in the adaptation of Old Enough! and previously led the LA Business Office, will take the helm. Miyauchi will relocate in June to begin operations in July.

Nippon TV aims to lead every phase of the content journey with the LA Business Office. This includes finding vendors, financiers, commissioners, licensors, and licensees, as well as tracking global Film & TV projects, partners, and deals on their website.

The company's website also offers opportunities to learn more about industry briefings trusted by leaders, sessions on topics such as Watch Time Wars: YouTube's Expansion and Strategic Implications for SVOD, and Micro-Dramas & Mobile-First Storytelling.

In July and August, Nippon TV will host Global TV+Film Productions Reviews, providing a platform for industry professionals to discuss and shape the future of content production and global distribution.

With these new ventures, Nippon TV, the owner of Hulu in Japan, continues to demonstrate its commitment to localizing content for global markets and leveraging digital platforms for distribution, further solidifying its position as a key player in the international media landscape.

  1. Nippon TV seeks to expand its influence in the technology sector by integrating finance strategies, as they plan to find vendors, financiers, and partners for their LA Business Office, facilitating content and IP sales across North America and Latin America.
  2. Moving beyond the bounds of entertainment, Nippon TV expresses interest in diversifying its business portfolio by attending industry briefings and sessions on topics such as technology, including Watch Time Wars: YouTube's Expansion and Strategic Implications for SVOD, further signifying their ambitions in the digital and tech-driven business world.
