Japan's Digital Agency Teams Up With OpenAI for Generative AI in Government
Japan's Digital Agency is exploring a joint venture with OpenAI to develop a generative AI application for administrative use. This move aims to encourage other government agencies to adopt similar AI services, with the agency planning to make these tools available after ensuring robust security measures.
The agency has already partnered with US tech giant Adobe, which is supporting future administrative work and services through AI technology. Adobe has expressed its intention to obtain the Information System Security Management and Assessment Program (ISMAP) certificate, demonstrating its commitment to security standards.
OpenAI, too, is taking steps to meet Japanese government's security requirements. It plans to obtain ISMAP certification to ensure its cloud services align with the government's standards. Meanwhile, the agency is set to provide its employees with access to OpenAI's large language model-based AI tool for work purposes by fiscal year 2026.
The Digital Agency's cooperation with OpenAI and Adobe underscores its commitment to leveraging AI for administrative efficiency and security. By obtaining necessary certifications and ensuring information system security, the agency is paving the way for wider adoption of AI services across Japanese government agencies.
