Joe St. Jean assumes role of Managing Director at A3SA, replacing Ron Wheeler.
Joe St. Jean has joined the ATSC 3.0 Security Authority (A3SA) as its Managing Director, bringing over 25 years of experience in multiplatform content delivery to the role.
St. Jean's extensive background includes expertise in developing delivery strategies, content licensing, strategic partnerships, and video distribution product development. He has also led the adoption of automated speech recognition technologies for live closed captioning of news telecasts, and driven 4K HDR distribution for live sports.
St. Jean's most recent position was as Executive Vice President of Technology Policy and Standards at Paramount Global, where he developed and executed technology policies across the media company's divisions. Prior to this, he worked for satellite operator PanAmSat and cable technology vendor Scientific Atlanta. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University.
In his new role at A3SA, St. Jean is expected to help navigate the needs of content owners, local broadcasters, and receiver manufacturers. He is also expected to continue supporting the ATSC 3.0 content security requirements and content protection needs of publishers across NextGen TV receivers.
St. Jean has been a longtime member of the A3SA technical committee and has participated in A3SA's development of ATSC 3.0 Security capabilities. He is excited to work with broadcasters and technology manufacturers to support the delivery of high-quality, high-value content with enhanced viewing experiences in a trusted and secure IP-based NextGen TV transmission system.
As the Managing Director of A3SA, St. Jean leads efforts to develop and manage protocols that secure ATSC 3.0 services utilizing IP-based encryption, device certificates, and rights management technology, all in accordance with the ATSC 3.0 Security Standard for next-generation TV broadcasting. Under his leadership, A3SA oversees a multi-party operational compliance process for device security approval, which includes secure provisioning and rigorous testing to ensure robust content protection.
St. Jean's role in A3SA is pivotal in enabling secure adoption and deployment of ATSC 3.0 technology, facilitating broadcasters and related stakeholders to meet stringent content protection standards and supporting the broader NEXTGEN TV ecosystem.
Anne Schelle chairs the A3SA board, having served as A3SA managing director from its formation.
