Kazakh Teen Arrested for Fake Rental Ads, Defrauding Citizens
Authorities in Kazakhstan have apprehended a 17-year-old suspect for posting fake rental ads on a classifieds site. The teenager, who has not been named publicly, allegedly defrauded unsuspecting citizens, including one victim who sent 60,000 tenge without receiving the house or contact with the 'owner'.
Police have opened a mycase for fraud and are currently conducting a pre-trial investigation. The suspect posted false information, offering to rent out houses at 'bargain' prices in Burabay. Unsuspecting citizens, attracted by the low prices, transferred deposits for the rental houses. However, the 'landlord' would disappear once the money was received.
Authorities have seized the phone used for communication and posting the fake ads. The teenager was arrested in the Kostanai region. Investigators are now checking if the suspect was involved in other similar incidents.
The 17-year-old offender's actions have resulted in a criminal case being opened. Police are urging caution when dealing with online classifieds, advising potential renters to verify the authenticity of listings and be wary of offers that seem too good to be true.
