KLM Welcomes 10th Airbus A321neo, Expanding European Network
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has reached a significant milestone, welcoming its tenth Airbus A321neo aircraft, PH-AXK, to its fleet. This marks the airline's commitment to modernizing its short-haul fleet and expanding its European network.
The journey began on August 27th, 2024, when KLM's first A321neo, PH-AXA, took off from Hamburg, bound for Amsterdam. This aircraft, along with the nine that followed, is part of KLM's plan to replace its Boeing 737s with the more fuel-efficient and comfortable Airbus A321neo. PH-AXK, the tenth aircraft in the series, landed at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on August 21st, 2025, marking a decade of growth in KLM's neo fleet.
PH-AXA's first test flight was on September 5th, 2024, and its maiden scheduled flight took place on September 16th, 2024, between Amsterdam and Copenhagen. The aircraft has since made over 55 test flights around Europe until September 14th, 2024. All A321neo aircraft in KLM's fleet are configured for 227 passengers in a single class and operate within Europe to and from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
KLM's expansion doesn't stop at acquiring new aircraft. In summer 2025, the airline added daily flights from Amsterdam to Exeter and Ljubljana, with plans to continue these routes into winter 2025/26. Additionally, they extended flights to Southern European destinations like Naples, Athens, Bordeaux, Gothenburg, Poznan, Cork, Leeds, and Vienna. The Airbus A321neo aircraft are being introduced into KLM's short-haul fleet starting winter 2025/26, supporting these new routes and improved services.
With the addition of PH-AXK, KLM now has 10 Airbus A321neo aircraft in its fleet, with plans to add at least 7 more. These modern, fuel-efficient aircraft will not only enhance passenger comfort but also help reduce KLM's environmental footprint. The airline's commitment to growth and modernization is evident in its expanding fleet and network, offering more travel options and improved services to its passengers.
