Latest Updates in Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Charging Sector: Volvo, Polestar, Monta, Robostreet, GreenPower, Blink, and RAM Feature
Volvo and Polestar Gain Access to Tesla Superchargers
Volvo Cars and Polestar electric vehicle drivers will soon have access to over 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations in the U.S. and Canada from 2025. This announcement is part of Tesla's initiative to open its Supercharger network to other EV brands, expanding charging options and interoperability across different electric vehicle manufacturers.
To make use of these charging stations, Volvo and Polestar electric vehicle owners will need to purchase and use a CCS1 to NACS adapter. These adapters, which typically range around $60 to $100 USD, allow vehicles using the CCS charging standard to connect to Tesla's proprietary North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs at Superchargers.
This move is significant as it enables compatible Volvo and Polestar EVs to physically plug into Tesla Supercharger stations—specifically Tesla Superchargers generation 3 (V3) and newer—which offer fast charging at rates up to 250 kW or higher.
Meanwhile, other developments in the EV charging sector are underway. Monta, a Copenhagen-based EV charging platform, has opened its U.S. headquarters in Miami to expand its services. Monta aims to connect 25,000 commercial charge points by 2025 and 1 million by 2030. Their software will streamline EV charging by connecting various stakeholders and optimizing the charging experience.
In other news, Nature's Miracle Holding Inc. has entered into a Cooperation Agreement with Robostreet Inc. to order 150 LS450 electric trucks from Robostreet for mobile vertical farms. The Ram ProMaster EV is built with a unibody design, providing students with hands-on experience in creating battery solutions for commercial work vehicles.
Adapters for Volvo and Polestar vehicles will start shipping on November 18, 2024. GreenPower Motor Company Inc. has received an order for 50 electric school buses from West Virginia school districts, while Blink Charging Co. has received a grant of nearly $2 million from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to expand EV charging infrastructure in Illinois.
Lastly, Polestar will adopt the NACS inlet as standard equipment in future North American models, and existing Polestar owners can order a NACS adapter through their local Polestar Service Center. In addition, Polestar's in-car Google Maps will be updated to show all available NACS chargers.
