Lidl, the popular supermarket chain, is revolutionising the shopping experience with its new digital receipt and deposit systems. The innovative features are now being tested in select stores across the country, offering customers a more streamlined and personalised shopping experience.
The digital receipt system, integrated into the Lidl Plus app, allows customers to scan their digital Lidl Plus card at checkout. After the purchase, a digital receipt or purchase summary is automatically generated and made accessible within a dedicated section of the app. This digital solution eliminates the need for paper copies, making it easier for shoppers to manage their receipts and consult their purchase history.
One of the significant advantages of the digital receipt system is the convenience it offers. Customers no longer have to worry about losing receipts, as all purchase receipts are stored digitally. The system also enables easy access to purchase history and receipts for consultation, activation of coupons and offers directly via the app during checkout, and digital versions of weekly leaflets and personalised discounts based on user data gathered through the app.
However, the digital-only receipt system does have some limitations compared to traditional paper receipts. For instance, the system requires customers to use and scan their Lidl Plus digital card for the receipt to be registered digitally; purchases without scanning the card do not generate digital receipts. Moreover, some users may find the digital-only receipt dependent on smartphone access problematic if their device has battery, connectivity, or app issues. Additionally, digital receipts may not be immediately available offline if the app requires internet to fetch stored receipts.
Lidl's digital deposit receipt system, on the other hand, is designed to offer a seamless and efficient return experience. By scanning a QR code, the app is linked to the deposit machine, and the deposit money is credited directly to the Lidl account. The system offers a print option for the receipt, similar to the traditional method, and the digital deposit receipt can only be redeemed in the corresponding Lidl store.
It is essential to note that the digital deposit receipt system does not replace the traditional paper deposit receipt entirely. Customers still have the option to use the classic deposit display if they prefer. Furthermore, the digital deposit receipt system does not force customers to use the app for every transaction. Even without the Lidl Plus app, customers can still redeem their deposit.
