Maersk Opens New Tijuana Facility to Boost Mexico-US Auto Parts Trade
Maersk has opened a new logistics facility in Tijuana, Mexico, further expanding its presence in the region. The company places high importance on this facility for automotive parts shipments that cross the border between Mexico and the United States. Beatriz Yera, the Managing Director for Mexico at Maersk, oversees the operation.
The facility, located in Prisma XII, Pacifico Industrial Park, offers a total capacity of 28,000 sq.m for parts handling. It supports inbound and aftermarket automotive parts, with 20 docks and two ramps for efficient loading and unloading. The site also features inventory control management and cross-docking, along with single and double-deep storage options.
Maersk aims to provide integrated logistics solutions, smoothing the flow of automotive goods from port to inland destinations in Mexico. The facility offers sorting, storage, cross-docking, inventory management, packaging, repackaging, and order fulfilment services. It is part of the Manufacturing, Maquiladora and Export Services Industry (Immex) programme for the Tijuana market, granting it access to major commercial ports and proximity to Otay and San Ysidro commercial ports.
The company plans to expand its landside capabilities to facilitate Mexico-US cross-border trade. Currently, Maersk has 150,000 sq.m of logistics space across Mexico, with plans to grow further in Guadalajara and Monterrey. Transport services to and from the Tijuana facility are provided in collaboration with third-party suppliers due to Mexican regulations.
Maersk's new Tijuana facility, with its extensive capabilities and strategic location, is set to bolster the company's role in Mexico-US cross-border automotive trade. The expansion aligns with Maersk's goal to provide integrated logistics solutions, streamlining supply chains and enhancing efficiency.
