SoftBank Invests $2 Billion in Intel Corporation

SoftBank Group Corp., a Japanese technology investor, has made a significant investment in Intel Corporation, one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers. The investment, worth an estimated $10.5 billion according to U.S. media reports, was announced on Monday [1].

The investment is part of a definitive securities purchase agreement signed in August 2025. It underscores SoftBank's commitment to advancing semiconductor innovation and advanced technology manufacturing in the United States [1].

Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank, emphasized the importance of semiconductors in all industries and highlighted Intel's role as a trusted innovation leader for over 50 years. He believes that advanced semiconductor manufacturing and supply will grow in the U.S., with Intel playing a key role in that expansion [1].

Intel's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, expressed pleasure in deepening the collaboration with SoftBank. He noted their aligned commitment to U.S. technology leadership and manufacturing. Tan also acknowledged a longstanding professional relationship with Son, appreciating the confidence SoftBank places in Intel through this significant financial commitment [1].

The investment will see SoftBank Group Corp. pay $23 per share of Intel common stock. The funds will be used to promote semiconductor innovation in the United States, with the aim of strengthening the country's position in the global technology market [1].

The investment is being made in the context of a potential deal with the U.S. President Donald Trump's administration for a 10% stake in a troubled chipmaker, also estimated to be worth $10.5 billion. However, this part of the deal is still under discussion [1].
