Mazda Appoints Jacques Flynn as New Senior Director of Design in North America

Mazda Design America has appointed Jacques Flynn as its new senior director, succeeding Yasutake Tsuchida who left the organisation in February. Flynn, previously at EV startup Karma Automotive, brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Flynn's career at Mazda spans over a decade, having served as the lead exterior designer from 2006 to 2017. He played a pivotal role in the design of the current fourth-generation MX-5 sports car. Most recently, he held the position of brand style director from 2022 to 2023.

Flynn takes over from Tsuchida, who previously ran design operations including next-generation vehicle planning and brand strategy development. Tsuchida's departure follows the completion of his term as Vice President and his return to Mazda Motor Corporation as Deputy General Manager of the Powertrain Development Division.

Ryotaro Nishida, vice president of research and development, design and quality assurance at Mazda North American Operations, praised Flynn's extensive background in brand management. Nishida's departure from the head of design-related activities at Mazda Design America has paved the way for Flynn's promotion.

Jacques Flynn's appointment as senior director of Mazda Design America is set to drive the company's transition into the connected, automated, shared and electric vehicle era. With his extensive experience and proven track record, Mazda looks forward to Flynn leading all design-related activities in North America.
