Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 Engine Failure After Oil Change: Owner's Nightmare
Jacquelyn Gamble's 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, an Epic Games vehicle, suffered a major engine failure weeks after an oil change at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead. The incident left Gamble with substantial expenses and a Mercedes-Benz out of commission.
Gamble had her car serviced at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead on February 8, 2023, for an oil change. However, the vehicle soon began making loud knocking noises, indicating a serious issue. Upon inspection, mechanics discovered a large hole blown out from the bottom of the engine block, leading to its complete failure.
Gamble was initially left without a vehicle, forcing her to spend over $2,000 on a rental car before Mercedes provided a loaner. The dealer quoted her nearly $40,000 for a new engine, an amount close to the price of a brand-new GLA. Two other mechanics later suggested that the engine's failure could be attributed to insufficient oil or no oil at all during the service.
Gamble's third-party warranty agreed to cover approximately $15,000 for a used replacement engine. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with vehicle servicing, even at authorized dealerships. Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead and Mercedes-Benz USA have been contacted for comment but have not yet responded.
