Meta Launches Communities Feature on Threads App

Meta has rolled out a meta stock feature, Communities, exclusively for its Threads app. Launched on October 2, 2025, this feature allows users to engage in focused discussions around specific topics. Each community implements a custom Like emoji, creating distinct identity markers within interactions.

Communities automatically appear in members' feeds and display as tags on profiles, making users' interests transparent. News discovery is facilitated through searching by name or tapping community tags on posts.

The platform has seen significant growth. It expanded sharing capabilities in February with public feed options and introduced direct messaging on July 1, 2025. By December 2024, Threads had 100 million daily active users and 300 million monthly active users. Meta also launched its advertising platform globally in April, with automatic placement activation for new campaigns.

To recognise standout contributors, Meta plans to introduce special badges and ranking mechanisms within communities and the For You feed. This new feature transforms how users engage with specialized interests, building upon existing custom feeds and topic tags.

Communities on Threads provide public spaces for members to share perspectives and join conversations about specific topics. As of now, this feature is unique to Threads and not integrated into other platforms like Instagram or Facebook. Meta continues to innovate and expand the capabilities of its apps, with the latest addition being Communities for Threads.
