Ministry Extends Digital Ruble Transition for Smaller Retailers

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has secured a longer transition period for smaller retailers to adopt the digital ruble. While major players must comply by 1 July 2025, smaller firms now have until 1 July 2027.

The digital ruble rollout is set for 1 July 2025. Larger retailers, with a turnover exceeding 30 million rubles, must support the digital currency by this date. Those with incomes between 20 to 30 million rubles have until 1 July 2026 to adopt it. This phased approach aims to ease the transition for businesses of varying sizes.

The Ministry's request for an extended timescale for smaller retailers was granted, providing them with an additional two years to prepare for the digital ruble. This decision comes following consultations with industry stakeholders and reflects the government's effort to support smaller businesses in their digital transformation.

The digital ruble's introduction is scheduled for 1 July 2025, with different deadlines for retailers based on their size. The Ministry's extension for smaller firms aims to ensure a smoother transition to the digital currency.
