Mobile service expansion: Vodafone establishes a new mobile tower in Ochtrup, reducing signal voids
In the Steinfurt district of Germany, Vodafone, one of the leading communication companies in the country, is making significant strides in enhancing mobile connectivity and emergency services.
Vodafone, the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group and a provider of internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV services, has launched a new mobile network station in Ochtrup, eliminating a dead zone in mobile broadband coverage. This move is part of a larger plan to improve connectivity in the district, with 19 more mobile network construction projects scheduled by mid-2026.
The new mobile network station connects 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile data highway, and 64 of these stations also have the broadband technology 5G on board, supplying 93.8% of the inhabited areas in the district with 5G. Vodafone's 5G network reaches more than 90% of the population in Germany.
Tanja Richter, Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, emphasised the importance of mobile networks for the quality of life and local economy. She stated, "Mobile networks are essential for the quality of life and local economy."
The new stations also come equipped with the latest emergency call technology, AML, and the disaster warning system, Cell Broadcast. These systems automatically transmit the caller's location to the emergency control center during an emergency call and warn the surrounding population via smartphone about danger situations like large fires, gas explosions, or floods.
In addition to the new stations, 18 existing sites will have larger network capacities by installing additional antennas for LTE and 5G. Vodafone's machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business operates on more than 97% of the German area, further bolstering the company's commitment to digitalisation.
The planned 5G upgrades of the radio stations in the communities of Rheine, Ibbenbüren, Steinfurt, and Neunkirchen will also benefit the residents of the communities of Rheine, Hopsten, Hörstel, Ibbenbüren, Ochtrup, Neunkirchen, Lengerich, and Steinfurt. A new 5G site is also scheduled to be put into operation in Recke within the next twelve months.
The new antennas support the latest variants of emergency call technology AML and disaster warning system Cell Broadcast, ensuring the safety and security of the residents in these areas. Vodafone also plans to upgrade 40 mobile stations without 5G to 5G locations, further expanding its 5G network across the district.
Vodafone Germany generates an annual total turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees, reflecting the company's significant contribution to the German economy. These ongoing network expansions and upgrades are testament to Vodafone's commitment to providing reliable, high-speed connectivity and innovative services to its customers in the Steinfurt district.
