Mocha Pro, Boris FX's VFX software, introduces novel AI tools for streamlined performance on VFX tasks.

In an effort to streamline complex visual effects (VFX) tasks, Boris FX has unveiled the latest update to its Mocha Pro software, version 2025.5. This release introduces several new features and improvements, including AI-assisted workflows, enhanced tracking, and export capabilities.

One of the standout features is the AI-based face detection system. This tool automatically detects and tracks every human face in a shot using machine learning. By default, it creates an elliptical mask around faces, enabling easy application of effects like blurs or mosaics for identity concealment. For beauty and detailed work, these masks can be manually edited or have individual facial features isolated with holdouts for precision.

The enhanced Matte Assist ML (Machine Learning) workflow allows artists to convert any reference spline into a Matte Assist ML matte and vice versa, increasing flexibility. There's also the ability to edit problematic frames within the Matte Assist ML mattes, enabling more accurate and seamless rotoscoping and matte cleanup workflows.

Mocha Pro 2025.5 also offers expanded camera solving and object tracking capabilities. New features include solving locked-off shots with greater accuracy and the option to snap imported 3D models to moving objects, improving integration of 3D elements in tracked scenes.

Batch export and preset management have been introduced in this update, significantly improving workflow efficiency. Users can now process multiple shots or data sets simultaneously, thanks to the new batch export queues and customizable export presets. Additionally, a new button enables users to render or track a shot both forwards and backwards with a single click, saving time and improving tracking quality.

The release includes updated support for Fusion, SynthEyes, and ACES 2.0 color management, keeping Mocha Pro compatible with popular compositing and tracking tools.

Mocha Pro 2025.5 is available as a plugin and standalone application, with monthly/annual subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and perpetual licenses. Subscription pricing starts at $48 per month or $325 per year. After installation, artists can request a 14-day free Mocha Pro trial via the Boris FX Hub application.
