MoonPay gains control over Meso, expediting its evolution into a worldwide payments system.
In a significant move, global crypto payments leader MoonPay has announced the acquisition of Meso, a pioneer in bridging traditional finance and cryptocurrency. This acquisition marks a major milestone in MoonPay's evolution to a global payments network.
Ali Aghareza, the Chief Technology Officer of Meso, will continue in his role at MoonPay, becoming the new Chief Technology Officer. Ben Mills, co-founder of Meso, has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Product at MoonPay. He brings a wealth of experience, having served at Braintree, Venmo, Thinkful, Chegg, and Solana.
MoonPay's network now includes Meso, Helio, and Iron, bringing together the critical components needed to create a single, global payments network. This network aims to connect banks, card networks, stablecoins, and blockchains under a unified regulatory framework.
Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO of MoonPay, stated that the acquisition is a turning point for the company. Ben Mills echoed this sentiment, saying that MoonPay is at a pivotal moment, moving beyond ramps to build the global payments network of the future.
MoonPay's network will include MTLs, BitLicenses, and MiCA approval, ensuring compliance and trust for consumers and businesses. For these parties, this means one trusted way to pay, get paid, and interact with money in any form.
Ali Aghareza, who co-founded Meso in 2022 and built it into a trusted infrastructure partner for fintech and crypto platforms, will lead MoonPay's global product organization. Ben Mills will oversee this organization, having a track record of building category-defining payments products.
This acquisition is expected to accelerate MoonPay's growth and solidify its position as a leader in the crypto payments industry. It's an exciting time for both companies as they embark on this new chapter together.
