New appointment at GoCardless: Former Checkout.com executive takes up role as Chief Product Officer
Shaun Puckrin, a seasoned payments and financial technology expert, has joined GoCardless as the new Chief Product Officer. In his new role, Puckrin will lead the product teams, focusing on product development, innovation, and continuous improvements.
Puckrin's extensive experience includes stints at Checkout.com, where he served as Senior Vice President of Product, overseeing the core payment products, including card acquiring, issuing, and authentication. During his tenure, he launched new product lines and led product expansion across various regions, including Japan, the US, Canada, and MENA.
At GoCardless, Puckrin will be instrumental in driving the development of new payment flows, Open Banking capabilities, and improvements to the bank payment platform. One of the key initiatives he will spearhead is the rollout of Same Day Settlement , an AI-powered tool designed to accelerate payouts and reduce late payment failures. This innovation aims to solve longstanding issues with same-day settlement for Direct Debit, drastically cutting typical two-day settlement times and improving cash flow predictability for businesses.
GoCardless' Open Banking capabilities will also see a boost under Puckrin's leadership. The company integrates connectivity with over 2,500 banks globally, which supports faster payment decision-making and broader payment options. This connectivity underpins efforts to make bank payments simpler and more efficient by providing real-time payment data and smarter risk assessment through AI.
Puckrin's focus on continuous product improvements will also extend to automation of collections and tighter integration with accounting platforms, such as Xero. These improvements aim to reduce manual administrative workloads, enhance payment reconciliation, and help businesses avoid the cascading negative effects of late payments in the supply chain.
Hiroki Takeuchi, co-founder and CEO of GoCardless, expressed delight at welcoming Puckrin to the team and expressed confidence in his expertise. Takeuchi believes that Puckrin's appointement will help GoCardless continue to lead the way in end-to-end bank payment solutions, focusing on simplifying and speeding up bank payments for merchants worldwide.
Puckrin, for his part, looks forward to building on GoCardless' success to create a new generation of payment solutions. He sees account-to-account payments as a key factor in reducing complexity, cost, and friction in the payment process.
Puckrin's appointment follows a stint at Nested, where he served as Vice President of Product and Engineering, and at GPS, now known as Thredd, where he was the Chief Product Officer. He has also held several senior leadership positions at Worldpay.
