New Electric Vehicle, Leap C11, Debuts on Chinese Auto Market with Powerful 544 HP for Affordable $31,000 Price Tag
In the world of electric vehicles (EVs), Leap Motor, a Chinese startup based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, continues to make waves. Founded in 2015, the company has expanded its portfolio to include three vehicles: the Leap S01 sports car, the Leap T03 city car, and the Leap C11 SUV.
The Leap C11, unveiled in September 2021, has been a standout success. With over 250,000 units sold domestically, the SUV has demonstrated strong performance in the Chinese market [3]. Leap Motor's production capacity has grown to support this success, with the company reaching 773,206 cumulative deliveries by May 2025 [3].
Looking beyond China, Leap Motor has embarked on an international expansion strategy. A significant step in this direction was the formation of Leapmotor International, a joint venture with Stellantis, headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Stellantis holds about 49% equity, while Leap Motor holds 51%. This partnership enables Leap Motor to leverage Stellantis' distribution channels to establish sales networks in international markets, accelerating the Leap C11's and other Leap Motor models’ global reach [3].
While the Leap C11 is currently the main electric SUV model, Leap Motor has also introduced the 2026 Leapmotor C10, specifically designed for global markets, which may complement their lineup for export purposes [1].
The Leap C11 is a five-seat SUV with a streamlined design, boasting a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour. The interior features a triple screen setup: a 10.25-inch diameter instrument panel, a 12.8-inch main touch screen, and a 10.25-inch touch screen for the passenger [3].
The Leap C11 is available with two powertrains: a single rear motor with 272 hp and 360 Nm, and a dual motor 4WD with 544 hp and 720 Nm. The base RWD model is priced at 159,800 yuan ($24,700), while the super powerful 4WD version, mated to the 90 kWh battery, is priced at 199,800 yuan ($31,000) [3]. The 4WD version has a range of 550 kilometers [3].
As Leap Motor continues to expand, the Leap C11, with its impressive sales figures and innovative features, serves as a testament to the company's commitment to delivering high-quality EVs both domestically and internationally.
