E-reader industry welcomes a new player, Pandigital, as they venture beyond their digital photo frames to introduce their new E-Reader model. Priced at $199, this new device will be released on the market starting from May 24th.

So, a new player's entered the e-reader market - say hello to the Pandigital e-reader!

Costing just $199, the Pandigital e-reader will be available starting this June. This sleek gadget boasts a 7-inch TFT LCD color multi-touchscreen display and measures 7.5 x 5.5 x 0.5 inches, weighing in at a comfy 454g (16oz). Under the hood, it rocks an ARM 11 Mobile Processor and runs on Google Android. As for the resolution, it's a sharp 800 x 600 - pretty sweet, huh?

But it's not just about reading - this bad boy lets you surf the web, check your emails, and jam out to your favorite tunes, thanks to its built-in web browser, email client, and music player. Plus, you've got access to tons of apps through Android.

Now, here's the good stuff. The Pandigital e-reader isn't a loner. It's got our buddy Barnes & Noble on its side! Connect to the Barnes & Noble E-Book store, which boasts over a million titles, and take advantage of their 'LendMe' technology - share e-books with a friend for 14 sweet days. The interface is smart and customizable, sporting responsive touch screen technology.

Don't expect this baby to challenge the Barnes & Noble Nook, though. While it's cheaper than the Nook, its limited distribution isn't gonna worry B&N, ‘cause it seems that's the trend with most new LCD tablets and slates on the market. Not much advertising, not much production - makes it hard to catch on.

Teasers say this puppy looks like an affordable option ($200) and it's got Barnes & Noble backing - but we'll need more info before we make any definitive calls. Like, which version of Android will it use? Froyo 2.2 maybe? And will it have access to the Android Marketplace? If so, it could be a steal, with third-party e-book choices like Kobo, Amazon, or Sony at your fingertips.
