New iPad Pro M5's remarkable feature might be the game-changer that wins over my generations-long hesitation.

Gearing Up for the iPad Pro M5: Bold Moves Ahead?

Whoa, buckle up! It looks like the future of the iPad Pro family might be slimmer, sleeker, and more pocket-friendly. Going by reports from The Elec via MacRumors, Apple is mulling over a display tech revolution that could bring slimmer bezels to future iPad Pro models – making way for a potential reduction in tablet size.

Is this change coming with the iPad Pro M5? Well, no one's certain just yet, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

The Display Makeover

Apple seems to be entertaining a display technology that could give its future iPad Pros a distinctive edge in terms of bezels. This new tech, if implemented, could mean more screen real estate without cranking up the tablet's physical dimensions or even shrinking its size, making it light and manageable without compromising on display size.

The proposed change includes Apple switching the display drivers for its iPad Pro OLED panels from Samsung's drivers to those manufactured by LX Semicon, and adopting LG Innotek's CoF technology. FYI, CoF technology allows display driver hardware to be attached to panels using heat compression on flexible film, enabling signals to be sent to the OLED panel and driving individual pixels. It also permits the panel edges to run closer to the enclosure, potentially reducing bezel sizes.

Will the iPad Pro M5 Shrink?

Recently, Apple's already made some impressive moves in reducing the screen frame. And don't forget, they've jumped on the OLED bandwagon for the current iPad Pro M4, resulting in even better picture performance. Then there's the option for nano texture glass on top-tier models, aiming to reduce glare and offer a more paper-like feel. But it's the shrinking of the bezels that's grabbing our attention for potential future purchases.

Let's talk about me – I've been using an 11-inch M2 iPad Pro since its launch in 2022. Honestly, I've found no reason to replace it yet, but I admit it's a bit heavy. I'd definitely welcome a slimmer, more manageable model in its place.

And hey, I'm all for a larger screen that offers no physical trade-offs, especially considering the tantalizing new MacBook-esque features coming with iPadOS 26.

But here's the catch – will Apple ink a new display supply deal before the iPad Pro M5 hits the shelves? If not, I might have to practice a little more patience. No biggie, right?
