New Range Unveiled for Tesla Model Y L and Model 3+ in China
Tesla Unveils Long-Range Model Y L and Model 3+ Variants in China
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released regulatory filings for the upcoming Model Y L and Model 3+ variants of Tesla, revealing official specifications and range figures for the electric vehicles (EVs).
The Tesla Model Y L, a six-seat variant, boasts an impressive CLTC cruising range of 751 km. Powered by an 82 kWh LG ternary NMC battery, the Model Y L features a dual motor setup that delivers 142 kW front and 198 kW rear, enabling a top speed of 201 km/h. The Model Y L measures 4976 mm in length, 1920 mm in width, 1668 mm in height, and has a 3040 mm wheelbase, with a curb weight of 2088 kg.
On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 , exclusive to China, offers two variants with CLTC ranges of 830 km (Long Range RWD version) and 800 km (another RWD variant). The Model 3+ is equipped with a 78.4 kWh LG ternary NMC battery, and its lower weight of 1,760 kg contributes to its high efficiency. The Model 3+'s pack energy density is slightly higher at 175 Wh/kg.
The range values are based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), which tends to be more optimistic than EPA cycles. Realistic EPA equivalent ranges are estimated to be about 30% lower, approximately 520-580 km (320-360 miles) for the Model Y L and Model 3+ variants.
The Model Y L's battery pack energy density is listed at 176 Wh/kg, with the pack weighing 465 kg. The Model Y L was unveiled last month in China and is expected to launch this fall.
The filings suggest that the Model Y L and Model 3+ variants are expected to be competitive in terms of efficiency and range within the Chinese market. The Model 3+, in particular, is poised to be the highest-range Tesla ever offered in China, potentially the highest-range EV available in the country altogether.
These are the most recently revealed official specs and range figures for the Model Y L and Model 3+ variants in China as of August 2025. The filings indicate that Tesla is prioritizing efficiency and range in the development of these vehicles for the Chinese market. The Model Y L and Model 3+ variants are part of Tesla's China lineup, further expanding the company's presence in the country.
The unveiling of Tesla's Model Y L and Model 3+ variants indicates a shift towards electric-vehicles (EVs) in the Chinese market, as both models boast impressive range figures. With the Model Y L offering a CLTC cruising range of 751 km and the Model 3+ variants boasting CLTC ranges of 830 km and 800 km, these vehicles showcase advancements in technology that integrates smoothly into the lifestyle of Chinese consumers, further expanding Tesla's presence and embracing the growing demand for gadgets and sustainable transportation options.
