Newly Showcased: Atomos' Innovative Ninja TX Combination of Monitor and Recorder

In a significant leap for the filmmaking industry, Atomos has introduced the Ninja TX, a reengineered 5-inch on-camera monitor-recorder that promises to revolutionise workflows for professional creators. This latest addition to Atomos' Ninja family offers a host of improvements and new features compared to previous models and competitive devices.

### Key Features and Improvements

The Ninja TX boasts a 5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a brightness of 1500 nits, making it 50% brighter than earlier Ninja models, ensuring better outdoor visibility and colour precision. It supports 8/10-bit colour processing, HDR, Rec. 709 colour gamut, and calibration with Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro/Plus.

The device's connectivity is impressive, with both 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 inputs/outputs, making it compatible with virtually any camera system or workflow. It also features built-in Wi-Fi 6E and AirGlu timecode sync for seamless multi-camera synchronisation and wireless workflows.

Recording media options are extensive, with support for ultra-fast CFexpress Type B cards, enabling high-bitrate RAW recording up to 8K at 30fps, 4K at 60fps, and HD at 120fps. It also allows recording to USB-C external drives through dual USB-C ports, permitting simultaneous connection of drives, accessories, or calibration tools for extended or fast-turnaround shoots.

The Ninja TX runs a new, faster AtomOS Linux-based operating system with over-the-air firmware updates. It supports native encoding to Apple ProRes/RAW, Avid DNx, H.265/H.264. For streaming and remote collaboration, it includes NDI 6/HX3 support, enabling live real-time content sharing over networks.

Designed with camera-to-cloud workflows in mind, the Ninja TX allows direct upload of recorded footage to ATOMOSphere cloud storage (with complimentary 20 GB), Frame.io, Dropbox, and other platforms, facilitating faster remote collaboration and delivery.

The reengineered mechanical design, electronics, and thermal system from the ground up contribute to better performance. It features a rugged cable-locking system for HDMI and USB-C cables to increase reliability on set. Power options include USB-C, Sony NP-F batteries, or AC adapter.

### Comparison to Previous Models and Other Devices

Compared to previous Ninja models, the Ninja TX offers a significantly brighter and colour-accurate display, a wider range of recording media, more robust connectivity, a faster operating system, native camera-to-cloud playback and upload capabilities, and improved performance and reliability. Against other monitors in the market, its combination of advanced recording media support, bright screen, cloud workflows, and network streaming makes it a compelling choice for professional filmmakers and content creators demanding modern, connected workflows.

Out of the box, the Ninja TX supports Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW, Avid DNx, and H.265/H.264. Special brackets are supplied with the Ninja TX to facilitate use of the locking system, and a USB-C locking cable comes with the device, while HDMI locking cables can be purchased separately.

The Ninja TX is the most advanced and capable Ninja ever built by Atomos, shipping ready for cloud workflows, including 20GB of free ATOMOSphere storage. It has a new industrial design, offering improved thermal efficiency, lower weight, and enhanced portability in a 5-inch form factor. Streaming via NDI 6/HX3 enables real-time collaboration and faster delivery from anywhere with the Ninja TX.

The Ninja TX will ship at the end of August and has an MSRP of $999. Creators can look forward to a device that delivers features previously reserved for the larger Shogun Ultra, all in a compact and portable form factor.
