One Piece's Second Season Unveils Its Vivi Character, Suggesting Another Complicated Anime Timeline Twist

Bridgerton's Charithra Chandran joins One Piece live-action cast as Vivi Nefertani

Looks like the One Piece live-action fever isn't dying down anytime soon! Netflix recently announced that Charithra Chandran will portray the rogue princess Vivi Nefertani (a.k.a. Miss Wednesday), speeding up the cast additions for season two. Chandran joins Sendhil Ramamurthy, who'll play her dad, Nefertari Cobra. Despite the creator, Eiichiro Oda, stating that season two wouldn't reach the anime's next major arc, Alabasta, recent casting announcements suggest deviating even further from the original timeline.

Mimicking the creative liberties taken in the first season, with Luffy's grandfather, Admiral Garp, and Marine recruit Koby's relationship serving as the season's emotional anchor, One Piece season two might delve into Vivi and Cobra's relationship before it is officially introduced in the anime (post-Drum Island arc).

The global phenomenon, One Piece (a mash-up of pirates, treasure hunting, and quirky characters), promises to be a riotous ride, according to Netflix's official synopsis: "Monkey D. Luffy, a spirited young adventurer, craves a life brimming with freedom. His epic quest: uncover the legendary treasure 'One Piece,' and rule the land as 'King of the Pirates.' To accomplish this, he'll amass an unstoppable crew, voyage across the heaving seas, outrun the relentless Marines, and outsmart rivals at every twist."

This latest bit of One Piece news follows Katey Segal's casting as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, and other talented additions to the Netflix anime adaptation, which includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger.

Stay tuned for more updates on the future of Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, the ever-evolving DC Universe, and, of course, a look into the promising future of Doctor Who.

P.S.: As of now, filming for season two wrapped up on February 4, 2025, with no exact release date yet announced. The season will cover story arcs from Loguetown to Drum Island, taking characters through exciting adventures. Some impressive new faces include Lera Abova as Nico Robin, Callum Kerr and Julia Rehwald as Smoker and Tashigi, and Rigo Sanchez as Monkey D. Dragon. Keep your eyes peeled for a rumored appearance by Bartolomeo, adding hype for the formation of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet in future seasons. For now, Vivi Nefertari and Nefertari Cobra are unlikely to grace our screens, as the plot primarily focuses on arcs before Alabasta.
