OpenAI Launches 'Sora' App for AI-Created Short-Form Videos
OpenAI has entered the short-form video market with 'Sora', a new app designed for generating and sharing AI-created content. The app, currently available by invitation only, is positioned as a rival to TikTok and aims to foster social connection through AI.
Sora emulates TikTok's 'for you page' feed but emphasizes user creativity. Videos are limited to ten seconds, reflecting the trend of short-form content. OpenAI's new audio-visual software model, Sora 2, is designed to create more realistic AI-generated content.
The app is initially available to Apple users in the US and Canada, with priority given to heavy users of the original Sora model and ChatGPT pro customers. ChatGPT Pro users in these regions can test the Sora 2 Pro model without an invitation. The specific users who have received invitations are not publicly disclosed.
Sora includes a 'cameo' feature allowing users to authenticate their likeness and control how their image is used on the app. OpenAI will apply digital labeling and watermarking to all Sora-generated video to maintain transparency. The app aims to shift AI from a productivity tool to a space for social connection, positioning OpenAI against TikTok in the short-form video market.
