Orrick bolsters its presence in Singapore through another recruitment from A&O and Shearman
In a strategic move to bolster its energy and infrastructure capabilities in Asia, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has recruited Adam Moncrieff as a partner in its Singapore office. Moncrieff, a highly respected energy infrastructure lawyer, previously worked at Allen & Overy Shearman (A&O Shearman).
Moncrieff's appointment strengthens Orrick's energy and infrastructure team, aligning with the firm's strategic ambition to build a full-service energy platform in the region. Recognized as a Chambers Band 1 lawyer, Moncrieff's expertise lies in complex energy projects, particularly in the LNG and natural gas sectors, which are increasingly important for the region's energy transition and infrastructure development.
The impact of Moncrieff's move is significant, especially in Southeast Asia's energy project development. With insights on geopolitical-driven energy realignments and the expansion of LNG infrastructure and LNG-to-power projects, Moncrieff's expertise will help Orrick's clients navigate evolving markets and supply chains, shaped by a mix of energy transition goals and geopolitics.
Giji John, a member of Orrick's global management committee, stated that Moncrieff's addition will bolster the firm's resources to handle complex energy projects, both traditional and renewable, and cross-border energy. Other lawyers who have left A&O Shearman to join Orrick include Alun Evans, Alexander Stathopoulos, Chris Mainwaring-Taylor, Kung-Wei Liu, and James Ford.
The Asia Development Bank forecasts an estimated $1.7 trillion in energy investment needs over the next decade, making the region a significant market for energy project development. Orrick's Singapore office, which currently has nine lawyers, including six partners, is uniquely positioned to help clients address opportunities across all energy assets and markets, from the largest LNG projects to the most novel PPAs, to support manufacturing and data centre development.
Moncrieff's practice includes renewable energy and energy transition work across Southeast Asia. He has advised developers and lenders on renewable energy projects throughout ASEAN countries and has a client portfolio that includes major Japanese companies, development banks, and regional conglomerates across Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and Southeast Asia.
Moncrieff's move to Orrick comes as Asia's energy project development and finance market prepares for substantial growth. With Moncrieff's addition, Orrick is poised to lead in energy project development in Southeast Asia, contributing to the growth and stability of critical energy infrastructure in the region.
