Partnership Announcement: Nozomi Networks and Schneider Electric unveil an embedded RTU Security Sensor for improved cybersecurity measures in industrial settings.
Nozomi Arc Embedded Security Sensor Enhances Industrial Cybersecurity
In a significant move to bolster the security of critical industrial control systems, Nozomi Networks Inc. and Schneider Electric have announced the integration of Nozomi Arc Embedded security sensor with Schneider Electric's SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs. This partnership, spanning over eight years, aims to provide enhanced protection for remote assets in various sectors, including oil and gas.
The Nozomi Arc Embedded security sensor transforms Schneider's SCADAPack 47xi RTUs into secure-by-design assets. By embedding the sensor directly onto the RTUs, it provides security at the control device level without disrupting operational networks.
One of the key features of this integration is real-time threat and anomaly detection. The sensor is designed to alert operators to malicious or suspicious operational activities such as USB or SD card connections/removals, changes to control logic or firmware, time manipulation, mechanical tampering, and other unauthorized actions.
The integration also offers enhanced device and asset visibility. It provides previously unavailable visibility inside the RTUs and connected field devices, including updates on software and hardware inventory, vulnerability details, resource utilization, and device state monitoring. This is achieved without relying on external polling, offering a more efficient and firewall-friendly data collection process.
The sensor's continuous, host-resident monitoring allows it to offer visibility and monitoring even when the RTU is offline or not actively communicating. This feature ensures that potential threats are detected and addressed promptly.
The embedded solution also enables Level 0 visibility by extracting process variable data directly from RTUs. This feature provides visibility at the control device level and allows for the detection and response to threats without disrupting critical industrial networks.
Schneider Electric's SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs are widely used in oil, gas, and other critical infrastructure sectors. The subscription model for the embedded solution is offered by Schneider Electric, Nozomi Networks, and global channel partners.
In a separate development, DMP has introduced JamAlert, a device designed to combat the growing threat of illegal cell jammers. JamAlert detects and alerts security systems to the usage of cellular signal jammers, providing an essential tool for maintaining the integrity of communication networks.
With the increasing reliance on digital technology in critical infrastructure, the integrated Nozomi Arc Embedded sensor and Schneider Electric’s SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs offer a powerful solution for enhancing the security of industrial control systems and remote assets.
For those interested in purchasing the Nozomi Arc Embedded security sensor or JamAlert, they are now available for purchase through their respective manufacturers.
The integrated Nozomi Arc Embedded security sensor, in tandem with Schneider Electric's SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs, offers a significant advancement in the energy sector, providing a robust cybersecurity solution for critical infrastructure. This partnership also reinforces the finance industry's investment in emerging technology like cybersecurity and energy management. The introduction of JamAlert by DMP further underscores the growing need for cybersecurity measures, particularly in the finance and technological domains.
