Unleashing the Top Performers: Stiftung Warentest's New Smartwatch and Fitness Tracker Champions

Premium smartwatches and fitness devices rule the market.

Stiftung Warentest has put 40 new smartwatches and fitness trackers to the test, with two trailblazers securing the top spot in their respective categories. From budget-friendly options to high-end competitors, there's a wealth of excellent devices to choose from if you're on the hunt for a new smartwatch.

Smartwatches

Five devices reign supreme, boasting a shared quality rating of 1.6. The Apple Watch 10 (GPS), priced around 460 euros, is a newer addition to the exclusive club. With a vast array of features, including top-notch fitness functions, communication capabilities, and sleep tracking, this smartwatch truly shines. However, testers found its battery life only satisfactory.

Another top-performer from the Apple stable is the older Watch 8 (GPS), available for around 420 or 450 euros in two sizes. If you're after a Google smartwatch, the Google Pixel Watch 3 (45 mm/Bluetooth/WLAN) could be your pick; it costs around 400 euros and achieved similar impressive ratings across the board. Like its Apple counterparts, the Pixel Watch 3's battery life is also satisfactory.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, priced at around 440 euros, also makes the cut. Though it lags slightly in battery life, it boasts the same impressive properties as its fellow top performers.

The new price-performance winner among smartwatches is the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE. This budget-friendly option clocks in at an average of around 175 euros yet still delivers a respectable quality rating of 1.7.

The cheapest good smartwatch in the pack is the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Lite, selling for less than 50 euros and achieving an overall rating of 2.3. While it won't blow your mind with its communication capabilities, its battery life, stability, and processing were rated very good, and its fitness functions and handling were good.

For around 70 euros, the Huawei Watch Fit 2 Active Edition (2.1) delivers very good fitness functions and still boasts good battery life.

Fitness Trackers

The sole top performer among fitness trackers is the new Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro, offered online for around 70 euros. With very good ratings in battery life, stability, and processing, this budget-friendly model is a force to be reckoned with. In terms of fitness functions, it just missed a 1 (1.6) and was rated good, along with its handling. However, its communication capabilities are only satisfactory.

For those who prioritize communication, the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 could be the way to go. This device costs around 45 euros, sports a strong overall rating of 2.4, and offers satisfactory communication features. Its handling, stability, and processing are very good, while its fitness functions and battery life are good.
