Rapid Expansion in SPOT and Satellite IoT Device Sales for Telesat Communications in 2024, Resulting in a 35% Year-Over-Year Increase
Sales of Globalstar's satellite Internet of Things (IoT) devices have surged, with Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Ltd. reporting a 35% increase in sales compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is attributed to the popularity of Globalstar's products, such as the SPOT Gen4, SPOT X, SPOT Trace, and SmartOne C satellite IoT transmitters.
The managing director of GTC, David Phipps, who is also the CEO of global operations at NextPlat Corp., reported this extraordinary growth in sales. GTC, a UK-based wireless and satellite technology reseller, has sold over 10,800 Globalstar devices in 2024 alone. This milestone comes shortly after Globalstar announced the 10,000th rescue worldwide, thanks to the reliable and ubiquitous satellite-enabled tracking and SOS capabilities in Globalstar's product portfolio.
The increase in sales is not limited to consumers. GTC has seen accelerated demand for Globalstar's products from commercial customers, including utilities suppliers, civil and national defence organizations, humanitarian aid NGOs, and parties operating in regions affected by political instability or conflict. The Globalstar device, SmartOne C, is a top seller for GTC in the commercial IoT category. A significant customer has recently procured a large number of SmartOne C units to monitor oil and gas pipelines.
Globalstar's diverse product offerings for various markets have been a key driver in the accelerated uptake of these devices. The company provides a wide range of mobile satellite services, including consumer retail products like the SPOT satellite GPS messenger for personal tracking, emergency location, messaging solutions, and anti-theft devices (SPOT Trace). It also offers commercial IoT products to track cargo containers, rail cars, utility meters, and oil and gas assets.
The company targets multiple industries such as recreation and personal use, government, public safety and disaster relief, oil and gas, maritime and fishing, construction, utilities, transportation, natural resources, mining, and forestry. This broad sector coverage supports steady demand growth across various applications.
Globalstar distributes its products both directly and through a wide network of independent agents, dealers, resellers, retailers, and e-commerce platforms including www.findmespot.com. The availability of easy purchase options enhances market penetration.
A strategic alliance with XCOM Labs to commercialize capacity-multiplying technology with Globalstar’s Band n53 for 5G deployments in selected countries enhances the potential for improved services and new market opportunities, which likely boosts sales indirectly by expanding service capabilities.
The increasing adoption of IoT solutions globally for asset tracking and the expanding need for reliable emergency communication devices (especially in remote or disaster-prone areas) have heightened demand for Globalstar’s SPOT and IoT products. The growing demand for satellite-based IoT and personal safety devices, coupled with Globalstar's robust distribution channels, strategic technology partnerships, and diverse product range, is fueling the company's sales growth.
In May 2024, GTC celebrated reaching a total of 45,000 Globalstar device sales overall. As the demand for Globalstar's products continues to grow, it is clear that the company's commitment to providing reliable satellite-based solutions for personal safety, asset tracking, and emergency communication is resonating with customers worldwide.
