Boris FX Embraces AI in 2023 and 2024, Revolutionising Post-Production Workflows
In a significant move, Boris FX has been at the forefront of integrating AI technology into its creative tools, transforming the realm of motion graphics and visual effects.
The company launched the Boris FX Hub in October 2023, providing a seamless platform for easy installation, license management, and keeping users updated on the latest releases, available for both Windows and Mac systems.
The year 2023 saw the release of several new AI-driven tools. Boris FX introduced Sapphire 2023.5 and Mocha Pro 2023 in April, followed by the launch of Continuum FCP: 2023.5 and an updated version of CrumplePop in June. In August, the company unveiled Mocha VEGAS, Continuum FCP - Lens Flares, and Continuum FCP - Light Flicker.
However, the most significant updates came in the subsequent year. Silhouette 2025, released in 2024, introduced new AI tools for refining masks and generating depth maps, significantly improving roto and paint workflows with AI assistance.
SynthEyes 3D tracking software updates, also in 2024, integrated AI-driven improvements in tracking, solving shots with anamorphic distance and focus breathing, extending the 3D tracking toolset, and enhancing workflow, including Alembic export and direct integration with After Effects and other software like Flame, Silhouette, and Blender.
Boris FX also introduced USD-based motion design and VFX tools in 2023, featuring new AI-powered features for applying textures to deforming surfaces, useful for digital makeup and logo animation. Across products, Boris FX started applying 3D tracking tech combined with AI in Silhouette and plugin suites like Sapphire and Continuum to automate and enhance visual effects workflows.
The Boris FX Suite, which includes CrumplePop and SynthEyes, as well as SynthEyes 2024 and another free version of Particle Illusion Standalone, was released in October 2023.
In May 2023, Boris FX made Particle Illusion Standalone available for free, and in April, the company released CrumplePop, which features significant sound quality boosts thanks to next-gen AI models on its noise, traffic, wind, rustle & clipping removal tools.
Boris FX has not only been updating its tools but also investing in education. The company offers a range of essential training series, including Continuum Essentials, Silhouette Essentials (with rotoscoping and compositing tracks), Sapphire Essentials, Mocha Pro Essentials, and Particle Illusion Essentials, in addition to weekly tutorials.
Moreover, Boris FX hosted its first in-person customer appreciation event since the pandemic, which took place in NYC this summer.
The 2024 release of Continuum includes a DeNoise ML effect, an UpRes ML effect, and the ability to generate custom AI sprites inside Particle Illusion. In September 2023, Boris FX released Optics 2024.
