Boris FX Unveils AI-Driven Creative Tools in 2023 and 2024
In a year marked by technological advancements, Boris FX has introduced a series of AI-driven creative tools aimed at streamlining and enhancing rotoscoping, paint, and 3D tracking workflows.
The journey began in August, with the release of Mocha VEGAS, Continuum FCP - Lens Flares, and Continuum FCP - Light Flicker. This was followed by the introduction of the Boris FX Suite, expanded with two new products: CrumplePop in April and SynthEyes in August.
One of the most significant updates came with the Silhouette 2025 release, which introduced AI tools for refining masks and generating depth maps to enhance rotoscoping and paint tasks. Meanwhile, SynthEyes received updates incorporating AI-powered features like anamorphic distance solving and improved focus breathing solutions, as well as workflow enhancements for exporting tracking data to applications like After Effects, Flame, Silhouette, and Blender.
These advancements are not limited to Silhouette and SynthEyes. Boris FX has integrated the 3D tracking technology across other products, including Sapphire and Continuum plugins.
CrumplePop, an AI-driven audio restoration tool for editors, saw significant improvements in its 2024 release, with next-gen AI models boosting the performance of its noise, traffic, wind, rustle & clipping removal tools.
Silhouette, too, has seen enhancements, with the addition of a Stability Node (2023), a DeNoiser ML node (2023), and an UpRes ML node (2023.5). The 2024 release of Continuum includes a DeNoise ML effect, UpRes ML effect, and the ability to generate custom AI sprites inside Particle Illusion.
These tools are not only available within the Boris FX Suite but can also be purchased as individual products. CrumplePop and SynthEyes are included in the suite, while Particle Illusion Standalone was made available for free in May.
The Boris FX Hub, launched in October, offers a seamless, user-friendly experience for installing products, managing licenses, staying current with releases, and taking free trials. The Boris FX Hub is available for download for Windows and Mac.
Boris FX has also made learning these new tools easier, with Continuum Essentials and Silhouette Essentials (with two tracks: rotoscoping and compositing) produced as free training series. Active Boris FX Suite subscribers have free access to the premium downloads of all Essential training series, while premium downloads of the Essential training series, including project files, can be bought separately.
The entertainment industry has embraced these new tools, with Boris FX products being used in projects like The Last Of Us, Ted Lasso, Hawkeye, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Jonkari P's meme videos, among others.
As we look forward to a better, brighter 2024, Boris FX is excited about more customer events and the continued evolution of their AI-driven creative tools.
