Ressence Presents the Type 7, Marking the Debut of Their First GMT Watch Model
Ressence Unveils the Avant-Garde Type 7 GMT Watch
Ressence, the innovative watchmaker known for its avant-garde mechanical watches, has introduced a new model – the Type 7. This watch is a testament to Ressence's commitment to pushing the boundaries of horology, offering a unique GMT function and an integrated titanium case, dial, and bracelet.
Key Design and Materials
The Type 7 boasts a sleek 41mm grade 5 titanium case, with a total thickness of approximately 14mm including the domed sapphire crystal. The dial, filled with oil, is housed under this crystal, creating an "OLED-like" optical effect with virtually no distortion and high contrast readability from extreme angles.
Ressence's signature orbital-convex display is present, with moving subdials that rotate rather than fixed hands, preserving a minimalist, modern aesthetic. The oil within the watch hides the depth between the crystal and the dial, giving the watch an almost screen-like appearance.
Functionality and Movement Architecture
The time display is accomplished by the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 7) – a mechanical module that carries the rotating subdials and is filled with oil. This module integrates GMT functionality via a 24-hour subdial to track a second time zone.
The oil-filled module employs multiple bellows to absorb oil expansion and contraction as temperature changes, and a small window on the dial reports internal oil temperature for monitoring. The watch is mechanical, combining traditional horology with Ressence's patented orbital display approach.
Unique GMT Display and User Interaction
The GMT is shown on a dedicated 24-hour subdial integrated into the continuously rotating orbital display, providing a clear, ultra-legible second-time-zone indication without traditional separate hands or pushers visible on the dial. The overall presentation makes the GMT feel like part of the single, fluid visual field because all indicators rotate in concert beneath the oil.
Practical Notes and Price
The oil is essentially invisible in normal operation; visible bubbles indicate servicing is required. The retail pricing reported at launch was around CHF 36,000 (ex. VAT).
Availability
The Ressence Type 7 is available from select retailers, with more information available on Ressence's website. The watch is available in two dial color options: Night Blue and Aquamarine, with the Night Blue model being part of the permanent collection and a limited edition of 80 available in Aquamarine.
The Type 7 retains the brand's distinctive look while adding more functionality. Its hours have their own subdial with an 11-color indicator inside that measures the temperature of the oil. Ressence has also introduced their first-ever integrated bracelet with the Type 7, which is also their first titanium bracelet. The watch is ambidextrous and ergonomically comfortable due to the lack of a traditional crown. The watch is wound and set by turning its caseback, unlike traditional watches.
- The Ressence Type 7, with its integrated titanium case, dial, and bracelet, demonstrates the brand's innovative approach, extending beyond watchmaking to include smart-home devices and other gadgets, reflecting the growing influence of technology in everyday life.
- Incorporating a unique GMT function, sleek design, and Ressence's patented orbital display, the Type 7 smartwatch seamlessly blends avant-garde style with technology, positioning itself as a notable addition to any tech enthusiast's watch collection, alongside smart-home devices and other gadgets.
