The British automotive brand MG Motor is set to make a significant impact in the German market with the arrival of its latest electric vehicle, the MG5 EV. Scheduled to be available at dealerships by the end of May, this SUV offers a blend of performance, technology, and style that is sure to captivate drivers.
A Smart Interaction with the MG5 EV
One of the standout features of the MG5 EV is its iSMART technology. This system enables fast, intelligent, and convenient interaction between driver and vehicle, making use of a smartphone for a seamless driving experience.
Performance and Efficiency
Powering the MG5 EV is a 170 kW motor that propels the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. The SUV's full torque is available in less than 50 milliseconds, ensuring impressive acceleration. The MG5 EV also boasts a pleasantly small turning circle of 10.53 meters, making it agile and easy to maneuver.
The MG5 EV comes in two performance levels. The standard-range Comfort version offers 125 kW (around 170 hp) of power and 250 Nm of torque, while the larger battery, using NMC chemistry, can provide a range of up to 480 km in optimal conditions.
A Comfortable and Spacious Interior
The interior of the MG5 EV offers plenty of room, with comfortable seats and a minimalist cockpit that provides excellent processing. The SUV is equipped with a 10.25-inch driver's display and a 12.8-inch infotainment HD display, both of which are user-friendly.
The MG5 EV's maximum load capacity is 370 kilograms, making it suitable for a variety of cargo needs.
MG Motor's Expansion in Germany
MG Motor is expanding its presence in Germany, aiming to have 180 to 200, and eventually 300 distribution partners by the end of this year. As of now, the company is working with over 160 dealers in Germany, and this number has seen a significant increase, with nearly 21,000 new registrations in 2024, an increase of 23.8 percent in the first quarter.
The MG5 EV's Distinctive Design
The MG5 EV is a 4.47-meter-long, 1.84-meter-wide, and 1.62-meter-tall SUV with a long wheelbase of 2.73 meters. Its design is based on MG's current MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) architecture and is initially only available with rear-wheel drive.
Convenience and Customisation
The MG5 EV's "MG Pilot Custom" option allows easy adjustment, storage, or deselection of preferred functions, providing drivers with a personalised driving experience. The vehicle's regeneration can reach one-pedal mode when needed, easily selectable on the large touch display.
In sport mode, the MG5 EV performs admirably, leaving gasoline cars behind at traffic lights. However, the SUV is more relaxed in normal and comfort modes, offering a smooth and comfortable ride.
