Seven Firefighters Successfully Complete Turntable Ladder Training in Alpen

The Volunteer Fire Department Alpen has announced that seven of its members have successfully completed a 40-hour training course for machine operators of turntable ladder vehicles. The training, which took place in September, aimed to equip the firefighters with the necessary skills to operate these crucial pieces of rescue equipment effectively under stressful conditions.

Turntable ladders are essential for fire departments, providing a means of reaching high places and rescuing people in emergencies. The practical part of the training involved various exercises and climbing numerous objects in the municipality of Alpen, with the goal of finding the best possible position for a turntable ladder in an emergency.

The theoretical training covered the basics of turntable ladder deployment. The firefighters learned about the control and technical operation of a turntable ladder, as well as its primary function, which is the rescue of people. In addition to rescue, turntable ladders can also be used for external firefighting attacks, with a water cannon and an additional attack line attachment. LED spotlights were attached to the basket for illumination of the incident site.

An electric fan was used for ventilation of smoked objects during the training. The course, led by Meico Rosendahl and Marco Giesen, deputy head of the fire department Alpen, focused on both theoretical and practical training.

The successful participants have now been officially trained in the operation of turntable ladder vehicles. The certificates for the participants were awarded yesterday evening, with both the course leader and Marco Giesen expressing satisfaction with the results.
