Russian air drones heavily targeted overnight, with Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepting and destroying approximately 70 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Russian air drones faced intense counterattacks, as Ukrainian air defences successfully eliminated approximately 70 Russian drones during the night.

In the early hours of August 9, 2025, Ukraine faced a significant threat as Russian forces launched a coordinated drone and missile attack on various parts of the country. The attack, which extended to several oblasts, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv, was primarily composed of 47 Shahed-type strike and decoy drones, along with two Iskander-K cruise missiles [1].

Ukrainian forces, demonstrating resilience and determination, managed to shoot down 16 drones and one Iskander-K missile, leaving approximately 31 Russian drones to impact target locations within Ukraine [1]. The strikes targeted 12 settlements in the frontline areas, causing concern and damage.

The Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and unmanned systems units were all mobilised to repel the airstrike. Despite the large-scale nature of the attack, the Ukrainian defences held strong.

Reports indicate that debris from downed drones fell in three additional locations, underscoring the intensity of the attack. As of 08:00, an additional 70 Russian drones have been confirmed destroyed or suppressed in Ukraine's north and east, bringing the total number of confirmed destroyed or suppressed Russian drones to 140.

It is worth noting that the drone attack originated from multiple locations, including Russian territories and temporarily occupied Crimea. The attack was launched from Shatalovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.

This incident marks another instance of the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and resilience in the face of adversity.
