Samsung Electronics Co. has announced a significant partnership with Tesla Inc., worth $16.5 billion, to manufacture Tesla’s next-generation AI processor, AI6, at Samsung's new semiconductor fab in Taylor, Texas.

The AI6 chip is designed to power Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, its humanoid robot Optimus, and its AI training platform Dojo. By unifying AI processing across multiple products, this partnership marks a major shift as Tesla moves away from TSMC and aims to diversify and strengthen its supply chain amid global semiconductor challenges.

For Samsung, this deal is a significant win for its underperforming foundry division, marking a strategic move to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor market. The agreement, which will run through the end of 2033, represents one of the largest in the history of Samsung's foundry business.

Tesla’s ambition to push deeper into AI leadership beyond electric vehicles is supported by this partnership. The collaboration also signifies cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing, with Samsung leveraging its advanced 2nm chip fabrication technology in the co-development with Tesla.

The economic impact of this agreement is substantial. With a multiyear commitment of 22.8 trillion won, the deal underscores the growing importance of AI chips in autonomous driving and robotics.
