Samsung unveils strategies for creating flexible, lighter, and more robust displays to outmatch Apple and other competitors in the market

Samsung's latest innovation, Mont Flex, is set to revolutionise the foldable smartphone market. This cutting-edge technology, designed to represent the pinnacle of foldable innovation, promises to deliver a superior user experience through its focus on mechanical durability, opto-mechanical flatness, narrow bezels, and thin and lightweight design.

The name "Mont Flex" is a nod to the French word for mountain, symbolising the pinnacle of innovation. Each letter in the name represents a key technology strength: M for mechanical durability, O for opto-mechanically flat, N for narrow bezels, and T for thin and lightweight design.

Mont Flex's mechanical durability is impressive, with Samsung claiming that its latest folding display technology will offer 500,000 folds in its lifetime, equating to 50 folds a day for 27 years. This durability is further enhanced by the use of redesigned hinges in upcoming devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which allow the screen to lie completely flat when unfolded, improving durability and fold smoothness.

The opto-mechanically flat screen delivers a vivid, flat display with a minimal crease, significantly improving visual quality and reducing the common fold line visible on older foldables. Mont Flex displays also use a technology called Lead, a polariser-free OLED display that helps increase brightness and reduces thickness by up to 20%.

The slimmer bezels of Mont Flex displays maximise the usable screen area, enhancing the immersive experience. devices using Mont Flex are thinner and lighter than previous generations, boosting portability. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which benefits from the technology under the Mont Flex brand, is surprisingly thin and light, with a thickness of 8.9mm when folded and a weight of 215 grams, lighter than some traditional smartphones.

Samsung's push for Mont Flex brand awareness could also help drive desirability for these components among other phone manufacturers, including potential future competitors like an iPhone Fold. In fact, some phone manufacturers already promote the fact that they have a Samsung display in their phone.

As Samsung continues to refine its folding phone models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, it is clear that Mont Flex is a significant step forward in the evolution of foldable smartphones. With its focus on durability, display quality, and device design, Mont Flex is poised to power the next generation of foldable smartphones, offering improved display reliability, visual experience, and device portability.
