Samsung's One UI 8.5 Brings Smarter Connections and AI-Driven Features

Samsung's upcoming One UI 8.5 promises a smarter wireless connections experience, along with a host of AI-driven features. Set to debut on the Galaxy S26 family in January, the new interface will learn user behaviour to optimise connections switching. However, existing Samsung users may have to wait until 2026 for the update.

One UI 8.5 will introduce NFC-based Quick Share for easy file transfers, a pollen forecast in the Samsung Weather app, and AI shortcuts for quick answers. It also includes a video nyt connections protection feature for those with photosensitive epilepsy, enhanced spam call filtering with live transcripts, and a Private Display to prevent side glances. Users can expect redesigned compact settings and a customizable quick settings layout, along with a back tap gesture for added convenience.

The advanced Galaxy AI assistant will offer meeting transcription and translation, while the Touch Assistant will make text reading easier. A Smart Clipboard will suggest actions like translating or summarising copied text. Samsung is focusing on using AI to enhance device performance, not just add new features. The AI could learn from user actions, such as turning off Wi-Fi when leaving home, to optimise connections. One UI 8.5 will also bring changes to folder appearance and a feature for family device sharing.

The upcoming One UI 8.5 is set to revolutionise the wireless connections experience on Samsung devices. With its AI-driven features and focus on user behaviour learning, Samsung aims to enhance device performance rather than just adding new features. While the Galaxy S26 family will launch with One UI 8.5 in January, existing Samsung users may have to wait until 2026 for the update.
