Scammers Caught in Sting Operation
The Anti-Cybercrime Group 7 in Cebu City launched a significant investigation against BMJ Data Processing Services, suspected of operating as a scam hub from its premises in Gallery, Barangay Kasambagan. The operation came to light after evidence surfaced online, revealing that the company's system had been hacked by a foreign YouTuber.
On May 27, 2025, authorities served a search and seizure warrant on the company's computers and laptops, believed to have been used in the scam. The action was in relation to possible violations of Section 11 of Republic Act 11765 (Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act), in conjunction with Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The raid on the company's office, found abandoned, resulted in the seizure of roughly 43 computer sets, laptops, and related devices, which are now being examined for potential evidence. Local law enforcement agencies, including the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), are involved in the ongoing probe.
Investigators have identified three suspects, believed to be officials of BMJ Data Processing Services. Some employees remain hesitant to cooperate with the investigation due to fear. The police, however, are encouraging them to come forward to clarify their involvement in the case.
