FBI Awards Leidos $129.7M Contract for Biometric Services

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has granted a five and a half year contract worth approximately $129.7 million to Leidos. This contract will see the technology company support the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program.

The primary objective of this partnership is to bolster and modernize the FBI's biometric identification capabilities. Leidos will collaborate extensively with CJIS to enhance the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a vast biometric and criminal history database used by federal, state, local, and tribal authorities.

Key features of the NGI system include the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and Rap Back, which offers continuous monitoring of individuals in positions of public trust.

Leidos' contribution to the FBI's biometric capabilities is a significant stride in the bureau's ongoing pursuit to advance these technologies. Since 2018, Leidos has been working with CJIS to incrementally integrate advanced biometric technologies. The contract solidifies Leidos' role as a key partner in federal law enforcement technology.

Incorporating agile methodology and DevOps practices, Leidos aims to improve collaboration and efficiency in software development. This approach is expected to foster a more seamless collaboration between the FBI and Leidos in the development of cutting-edge law enforcement technology.

The contract marks a significant step in the FBI's efforts to leverage advanced technology to bolster its law enforcement capabilities and reinforce its partnership with Leidos [1][2][4].

Leidos' finance department will likely allocate resources to develop and maintain the advanced biometric technologies being incorporated into the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, demonstrating a significant investment in technology. Working closely with the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), Leidos aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the NGI system through the application of agile methodology and DevOps practices in software development.
