Sennheiser Slapped with Hefty Fine for Price-Fixing Scandal

Unlawful Contracts: Sennheiser Faces Hefty Penalty, Requiring Millions in Fines - Sennheiser Faces Million Dollar Penalty for Unspecified Violations

In a damning move, headphone giants Sennheiser have been hit with a massive €6 million fine for engaging in illegal price-fixing activities. The Federal Cartel Office, Germany's competition watchdog, exposed Sennheiser's covert manipulations of retail prices for their audio products since 2015.

Sennheiser, based in Wedemark near Hanover, has been caught red-handed interfering with retailers to boost in-store prices. Retailers who sold products significantly lower than Sennheiser's suggested retail price (RRP) were coerced to adjust their pricing.

The Federal Cartel Office revealed that Sennheiser's acts were deliberate, with employees receiving training on competition law to disguise their deceitful practices.

The fine also impacts three responsible employees and the German subsidiary of Sonova, a hearing aid manufacturer, who acquired Sennheiser's consumer business in March 2022. Price-fixing continued, albeit on a reduced scale, after the takeover until the Federal Cartel Office swooped in for a raid in September 2022.

The Community policy of the Bundeskartellamt, Germany's competition watchdog, has been applied to impose a €6 million fine on Sennheiser for their involvement in illegal price-fixing for vocational training, specifically in their audio products, as revealed by the Federal Cartel Office. Jennifer Ott, Sennheiser's responsible employee for vocational training in competition law, was also fined as part of the penalty. The fine highlights the importance of businesses adhering to general-news and ethical practices in their vocational training programs and interactions with retailers in the business and technology sectors, especially in finance and such incidences attract public scrutiny.
