Shein's UK Revenue Surges to $1.38B, Acquisition Talks for Missguided
Fast fashion giant Shein has been making headlines for various reasons in 2023. The company, which has faced legal troubles and congressional investigations over its labor practices, is also making significant strides in the U.K. market.
Shein's U.K. revenue has soared, reaching 1.12 billion pounds (approximately $1.38 billion) between September 2021 and December 2022. This impressive growth has put the company on track to become one of the top 10 U.K. apparel retailers this year.
The brand's expansion plans include a potential acquisition of U.K.-based fast fashion rival Missguided. Talks are reportedly underway with Emerging Market Brands, an investment firm, acting as the potential buyer. Shein has also made strategic partnerships, recently teaming up with SPARC Group, operator of Forever 21, to distribute each other's products in the U.S.
Shein's physical presence in the U.K. has grown with the opening of a pop-up store on Oxford Street during London Fashion Week in 2023.
Despite facing labor-related challenges, Shein continues to expand its reach and influence in the U.K. market. With its impressive revenue growth and strategic partnerships, the company is poised to become a major player in the U.K. fashion scene. The potential acquisition of Missguided could further strengthen Shein's position in the competitive fast fashion market.
