Solx Brings First Solar Module Factory to Puerto Rico, Creating 200+ Jobs
Domestic solar manufacturer Solx is set to open Puerto Rico's first solar module manufacturing facility. The project, with a total investment of $64 million, aims to create over 200 jobs initially and potentially thousands more in related industries. The plant will produce high-performing, durable modules tailored for extreme weather-prone regions like Puerto Rico.
The facility, located in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, will commence operations with an initial output capacity of 1 GW and an investment of $25 million. Solx, committed to serving the U.S. market, plans to expand its production to include residential solar panels by 2027.
Solx has partnered with 3M to supply cells for the module assembly plant and Origami Solar for steel frames, including large-format G12 modules. The company will produce 72-cell N-type modules for the utility-scale market and offer a 625 W module this year, supplying it as a turn-key OEM to an unnamed partner.
The project is expected to provide a significant economic boost to Puerto Rico, creating more than 200 jobs initially and potentially up to 600 or more across related industries. Solx's commitment to producing durable, high-performing modules for extreme weather conditions positions the company to serve not only Puerto Rico but other similarly weather-prone U.S. regions.
