Star Trek: Enterprise star, Scott Bakula, assembles fresh Archer series, sparking intrigue after a two-decade hiatus from the series.

The Star Trek universe is expanding once again, with plans for a potential new series titled Star Trek: United. This series, which is still in the pitching and development stage, would see Scott Bakula reprising his role as Captain Jonathan Archer from the series Enterprise.

The show's creator, Michael Sussman, who also produced Enterprise, has envisioned a mature, politically-driven storyline for Archer. In this series, Archer would serve as President of the United Federation of Planets, a role that finds its origins in the Enterprise episode 'A Mirror Darkly Part II'.

To differentiate it from other Trek projects, the setting of the show has been moved from Earth to the planet Babel. This location, introduced in The Original Series, promises a unique narrative space for Star Trek: United.

In 2021, the project was pitched to Alex Kurtzman’s production company, Secret Hideout, and received positive interest. However, discussions stalled due to Paramount scaling back streaming investments and concerns about overlap with Starfleet Academy. With Skydance Media's recent acquisition of Paramount Global and new leadership under CEO David Ellison, there is renewed optimism about pitching Star Trek: United again.

As of August 2025, no official announcement or production timeline has been made. However, it is known that Sussman took a high-level overview of Star Trek: United to Secret Hideout for discussion. Meanwhile, Sussman and Bakula are also working on a non-Star Trek project together.

The proposed series is described as a political thriller and family drama set during the formative years of the Federation. It is intended to have a mature tone similar to the Star Wars series Andor. Interestingly, Starfleet Academy is set to drop sometime next year, potentially paving the way for Star Trek: United to be added to the list of upcoming Star Trek TV shows.

Star Trek: Enterprise ended 20 years ago after four seasons. Since then, the Star Trek franchise has been active on small screen with Paramount+, with Strange New Worlds Season 3 currently airing on the 2025 TV schedule. As we wait for updates on Star Trek: United, fans of the franchise can look forward to these exciting developments.
